Domino is a term used for a small, oblong piece of wood or plastic marked with a series of dots, called pips. It is stacked end to end in long lines and then tipped over. Once tipped, it triggers the next domino to tip and so on, in an endless chain reaction (hence the name domino). Using this principle, people can make very complex designs. Dominoes can be made of many different materials including bone, silver lip ocean pearl oyster shell (mother of pearl), ivory, or a dark hardwood such as ebony. Some sets have the top half thickness in one of these materials, while the bottom is in another material such as a stone, brass or pewter. They can also be made of other natural materials such as marble, granite, or soapstone. In addition to Domino, there are also other games that use dominoes such as double six and chicken foot.
The word domino comes from the Latin dominus, meaning lord or master. Its earliest known usage was in reference to a loose cloak worn with a mask for the upper part of the head at masquerades. Later, it was applied to a small tabletop game that consisted of a row of 28 squares or rectangles. Each was affixed to its adjacent neighbor with small pins. The aim was to be the first to place a piece on a line that had the same number of pips as the pieces at both ends of the line. Dominoes can be made of a variety of materials including ivory, bone, mother-of-pearl, or a wooden base, and may have black or white pips. They can be decorated with intricate carvings and are available in a wide range of shapes and sizes.
When a Domino’s customer orders food, their mobile phone is automatically acknowledged as soon as they are within 20 meters of the store. The system then sends them a personalized welcome message along with tantalizing upsell offers on their way to the store, increasing engagement and average read and interaction rates by three times compared to traditional mass blasts.
A Domino’s customer can choose to receive these messages in a variety of ways, including SMS, email, and Facebook Messenger. The company has also developed an omnichannel digital commercial platform, which provides consumers with the ability to order online, by mobile app, by voice, or in stores.
Domino’s power comes from an uncontrolled, subconscious talent that manifests itself when she is exposed to a high level of chance. This talent is triggered in stressful situations such as fighting or escaping, and augments her natural reflexes to near-superhuman levels.
This luck ability is not infallible, and she has been injured several times when her reflexes and “luck” failed to save her. Despite these limitations, Domino is an extremely skilled combatant and assassin. She was once a member of the mutant mercenary team Six Pack, and after their dissolution on a mission in Rumekistan she joined Cable’s new Black Ops Team, X-Force.
